Ruth Kasckow
Ruth Kasckow began study with Bonnie Lake from the Baltimore Symphony at the Peabody Preparatory of Peabody Conservatory. She attended Goucher College receiving a BA degree in Music. Ms. Kasckow continued her flute performance training at California Institute of the Arts where she received her MFA in Flute Performance. While at Cal Arts she studied with David Shostac and was member of the CalArts Twentieth
Century Players.
Ms. Kasckow has participated as a performer in master classes with Jean-Pierre Rampal, Julius Baker, Andreas Blau, Thomas Nyfenger, Karlheinz Zoller, Liisa Ruoho
and Toshio Takahashi.
Residing in the Los Angeles area for the past 24 yeras, Ms. Kasckow has performed as a freelance musician in local orchestras, chamber groups and recording work. She also has an active private studio, using a unique teaching method that incorporates traditional music training with the Suzuki Technique and Body Mapping for fluid, effortless technique.
Ms. Kasckow is currently working on a CD of German music which includes: Schumann Three Romances, Hindemith Sonata, Henze Sonatine, Reinecke Undine Sonata and CPE Bach Sonata in a minor for solo flute.
Chris's Biography
Christopher Brennan holds a Master of Music degree from Yale University where he participated in the annual Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. He received his Doctorate of Music at USC with an emphasis on chamber music. He has established himself in the Southern California area as a chamber musician and teacher, serving on the faculty of Chapman University in Orange and maintaining a private studiio in
the Pasadena area.
Christopher Brennan's musical abilities also extend into the world of composition. His Sonata for Flute and Piano has been performed in Los Angeles, and his music for the film, "Hearts as One," was honored at the Heartland Film Festival.
In the CD release French Impressions for Flute, flutist Ruth Kasckow collaborates with pianist Christopher Brennan to create a new portrait of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century masterpieces. With a great fondness for French composers, Ruth portrays the mood and character of this time period in her new CD. Presented on this recording is the music of Gaubert, Faure, Debussy, Milhaud, Poulenc, Ibert and Sancan, and it is music which leaves the listener with an impression, be it emotional, literary or pictorial. Performed with a direct and honest approach, Ruth reaches a larger audience beyond the milieu of star performers and the highly trained musical ear. Her smooth and effortless playing style provides a pleasurable and gratifying listening experience, conveying the music of these French composers in her unassuming expressive and elegant style.
