John Miller: Bio

Outside the theater world, John has been a first-call bassist over the years for an impressive range of musical icons from pop (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra), rock (Aerosmith, Roger Daltrey, Jimmy Page), R&B (James Brown, P. Diddy, Luther Vandross), jazz (Gil Evans, Woody Herman, Ornette Coleman) and Classical (New York Philharmonic, Marilyn Horne, Dawn Upshaw).
His skill as a musician - along with his collaborations with so many giants of the industry - make him uniquely qualified to create an album not only for lovers of showtunes, but also to those who might hear them for the first time. In the culmination of two different but equally extraordinary careers, Miller boldly reinterprets these theater classics for audiences of every generation.
John is an American musician and actor known for his work on Broadway. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Music degree in 1968. John moved to New York City in the mid-1970s and was first hired as a musical director for the Broadway musical 'I Love My Wife.' He also had an acting role in the show for which he won a Drama Desk Award. After a time, John's work started to include; musical contractor and musical coordinator on stage, and for film and television, hiring musicians, musical directors, orchestrators, and copyists for productions. Over the past thirty years, Miller has worked as the musical coordinator for more than 75 Broadway shows including Young Frankenstein, Les Mis, Jersey Boys, Sweeney Todd, Caroline, or Change, Little Shop of Horrors, Big River, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Producers, The Who's Tommy, and Barnum. He has also worked as the musical coordinator for films, including The Producers, Mulan,
and Marvin's Room.
