Phil Brown: Bio
Phil Brown, a six string avatar has worked in the industry for over 30 years as a session player, songwriter, producer, and engineer. In the early 80s, he replaced Lowell George in Little Feat for a while, but preferred writing, and over the next years, penned 270 songs for big and small artists, including; Ace Frehley/ KISS; Cher, Bonnie Tyler, KIX, Pat Benatar, Steve Perry, and Tower of Power to name a few.
Out of a dare, Phil records his interpretation of his favorite Jimi Hendrix tunes. [the jimi project] has landed and the CD street date was March 28, 2006.
[the jimi project] started as an experiment. Phil Brown produced [the jimi project] CD. Phil played guitar and vocals, while long time friend Jimmy Haslip from the Yellowjackets sat at the bass, and Gary Novak, drummer for Chick Corea for 7 years and Alanis Morrissette for 12 years, beat the sexy tempo.
Since its conception [the jimi project] album has stirred an underground buzz and has taken a life of its own, with fans from Australia, to Qatar via London!? Not only does Phil have a great number of fans, but particularly a lot of fan musicians Phil's music was played at the first Cream reunion (2 concerts) at the Royal Albert Hall Theater in London last June while people took their seats, while Bozz Scaggs calling KRSH radio about three weeks ago when he heard the CD single, Phil's "Manic Depression" on the air.
Blues Matters Magazine (England) proclaimed: "In some ways he's making the records Jeff Beck OUGHT to be making." Charley Cross (New York Times Top 10 Author/Biographer Best Seller) who wrote the Kurt Cobain's Heavier Than Heaven biography and Jimi Hendrix' biography Room Full Of Mirrors, says: "It is important that people don't think that you are simply a Jimi Hendrix clone...you are doing different arrangements, but your voice...it's not Jimi's voice but there is a darkness to your voice..it works with this material...." and Gypsie Mayo (Yardbird's guitarist) adds: "...Phil Bown is the coolest Hendrix interpreter I've ever heard..." NPR's Mick Martin, KXJZ wrote about [the jimi project]. "Is this The CD of the Year?... No CD of the last 12 years has inspired
so many listeners..."
In addition, KXJZ Blues Essentials CD (vol3./Apr.06) features Phil Brown's ("Heaven"/Cruel Inventions) along with legends such as Jimmy Witherspoon, R.L. Burnside and Little Milton.
Phil Brown is an independent artist and [the jimi project] is an indie release.
Phil Brown CD's are distributed in traditional venues & in independent stores

so-what's up?
Once in a while someone great shows up out of the blue... did I say BLUE? A real guitar-hero-gunslinger... A "have guitar-will travel" 6 string avatar... classically trained on the violin from childhood. Born in San Francisco and raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico, the home of the atomic BOOM! Turn out the lights and the guy glows in the dark... are you with me?
OK... not everybody survives in La-Lah Land or do they?
LA is a tough place... the endless summer, where the good die young and Jung has the blues coming out of every worn out wrinkle on his couch! Meanwhile, the guy's got quite a story. (Now, this oughta' be a movie!) This celebrated singer, is a songwriter, guitarist extraordinaire and a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, engineer, producer... funky but beautiful.
Don't we all like to think that we know the difference between the rock and the hard place? Even if you went the distance, say, 3 minutes and 17 seconds this guy is the big wide open. So many other artist's have cut his songs! from Cher to Benatar, Kim Carnes, Kix, KBC, Ace Frehley, Bonnie Tyler, Dora Pesch, Steve Perry, Jack Bruce's Band to Willy Dee and Tower of Power-TV and film credits galore, just to name a few-and that's when he wasn't
even trying.... ya'dig?
Ok-now to the present-the guy flies over to Paris & gets a French record label deal. Nobody here in the states was hip to
the pleasure... yet!
The ToneQuest Report discovers him. Someone sends his CD to a radio station to London, England and voila!!! A very hip underground/cutting edge DJ Pete Sargeant airs Phil Brown & Apaches From Paris-'Cruel Inventions' on his radio show www.resonancefm.com and the switchboard almost blows up. Next thing y'know-NPR's Mick Martin hears about it and begins a whole airplay thing on him in the US. Other radio stations start to discover Phil Brown & Apaches From Paris. All around the world from Qatar to Sao Paulo, Europe to Australia-they all have his music on the airwaves and if that's not enough he has "Phil Brown/The Jimi Project" which is blowing everybody's mind and a new single "California Zen" coming soon. It's in the top 10 on several radio/internet stations in the US
and Europe... number one on www.compo10.com in Finland. Napster's new artist Austin Hanks has also released "California Zen" as his new single.
It's true... nobody goes home singing a guitar solo... until now. By the way, in case you're wondering, Phil Brown & Apaches From Paris are not coming your way soon... they're already here!
