 November 30, 2004, Los Angeles, CA- After setting the woodwind world on its ear with his crossover jazz contrabassoon album Contradiction, Allen Savedoff again breaks new ground presenting new works by prominent contemporary composers as well as unusual orchestrations of well-known classical pieces on his latest recording: SavoirFaire, on the Capstone Records label.

 Commissioned for this album are: Bounce, written by 9 time Emmy-winning composer Bruce Broughton, a fast, jazz-style piece for bassoon, antiphonal string quartets and bass, conducted by the composer; Emmy-winning composer Jeff Beal's introspective woodwind quintet, (low man) Totem Pole; and the rock and tango influenced Concussion by producer Kim Scharnberg for 3 percussionists and contra. Recorded for the first time: Uncle Bebop, a high energy duet for bassoon and viola, by Austrian composer Gernot Wolfgang; and, conducted by the internationally acclaimed Jorge Mester, Damian Montano's Canzona and Scherzo for solo bassoon, 10 woodwinds, piano, harp and bass. Also on the disc are: Fluffy and His Harp written by 5 time Oscar-winner John Williams, a duet for contra and harp from the first Harry Potter film; Scharnberg's unusual arrangement of Debussy's Clair de Lune for Balinese gamelan, flute, oboe, bassoon, voice, harp and cello; and an abridged orchestral version of Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, with the wolf telling the story in a new narration featuring film and television actor Louis Giambalvo and Rich Capparela, Los Angeles' celebrated classical music radio announcer. Additionally, there are new orchestrations of Sous le d me pais (Flower Duet) from Lakm by Delibes, as a bassoon duet with orchestra; Ravel's Pi ce en forme de habanera performed on contra and classical guitar; and Debussy's Syrinx for solo contrabassoon.
