Vanguard Classics

Many thanks to those of you who have written over the past two months, since we reopened our newly designed web site. Yes, we are back, and we hope that your favorite Vanguard Classics releases will all be available in some format before the end of 2004. We're working to make almost every single track ever recorded available. Watch your email box for more news regarding the availability of Vanguard Classics.

There's quite a bit happening herethe most important piece of news in the past few weeks has been the return of Leon Fleisher to the Vanguard Classics label. The Maestro will be recording a two handed solo recital for the first time in over forty years. Having fought through an illness called "dystonia", the pianist has regained the use of his right hand enough to finally record again. Right now, the first disc is still being put together, but it will certainly be a collection of the pianist's favorite two handed piano musicBach, Chopin, Debussy to name a few composers whose music will almost certainly be included. A second disc is also planned, probably some chamber music this time. But that's the thinking right now. Check back, because we reserve the right to change our minds.

And another welcome to composer/conductor/performer/tennis pro Rob Kapilow. Rob will be making a series of recordings that will christen the new Vanguard Classics "Everyman" line. Making classical music enjoyable entertainment for a broad audiencethat will be the key to the Everyman line. The first line of discs will feature Rob's "What Makes It Great" series captured on CD for the first time. The first releases will feature two great works of Mozartthe Jupiter Symphony and Mozart's charming favorite, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. These discs will be out for Rob's concerts at Lincoln Center in New York City this July, and then available at Rob's hundreds of concerts each year.

WHAT ABOUT EVEREST?

That's the most asked question from consumers who visit our site. When Artemis Records purchased Vanguard Classics from the Omega Records Group in 2003, we declined to purchase the license to the Everest label held by Omega. We know that many of you are looking for the catalog of recordings available from Everest, but Vanguard Classics no longer distributes the Everest label.
