Angel Records In 1953 Gramophone successor EMI lost its U.S. distribution arrangement with Columbia Records. In response, EMI established Angel Records in New York City and concentrated on distributing their then 500 classical titles. Since, EMI merged Angel into its recently acquired Capitol Records subsidiary and moved from imported discs to U.S. production.
Arbors The Arbors catalog is populated by artists who may resemble their audience: a little gray around the temples and slightly heavy around the middle, playing swing-based music that benefits from their years of experience. Manhattan Records is a subsidiary of EMI, and existed for a relatively short time in the 1980s. Telarc International Corporation is a Cleveland, Ohio based independent record label, founded in 1977 by two classically trained musicians and former teachers, Jack Renner and Robert Woods. Verve Verve Records is an American Jazz record label owned by the Universal Music Group. It was founded by Norman Granz in 1956, absorbing the catalogues of his earlier labels: Norgran Records and Clef Records and material which had been licensed to Mercury previously. The Verve catalog grew throughout the 1950s and 1960s to include most of the major figures in jazz, though Granz tended to record established artists, sometimes in decline, rather than new talent. It also recognized the potential of comedy albums, producing Spike Jones' first LP, Dinner Music For People Who Aren't Very Hungry in 1956 and several best-selling albums featuring live performances by Shelley Berman beginning in 1960.
