A candle in the window was a symbol of welcome to Mary and Joseph as they wandered, looking for shelter. Tradition further had that it should be lit by the youngest member of the household, and could only be extinguished by a girl named Mary.
Leave a Snack!
After Christmas dinner, the table was cleared and set again with a? pitcher of milk, a candle, and a loaf of bread made with raisins and caraway seeds. The front door would be left open so that Mary and Joseph or any travelers could partake in the food.

Celtic Woman has enthralled US audiences with their record-breaking self-titled debut album, a platinum concert DVD, a PBS special, and four highly successful U.S. tours. Fans? will see more of them this winter as their second PBS Special "Celtic Woman: A New Journey Live at Slane Castle" airs nationwide in December, while a new studio CD and live DVD are set to follow in January.
Celtic Woman will release their stunning new CD A New Journey and DVD A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland on January 30, 2007 (Manhattan/EMI). The release quickly follows their PLATINUM certification this week for their self-titled debut album, 'Celtic Woman', also released by Manhattan/EMI in March of 2005.
These new recordings capture the great voices of Lisa, Maev, Orla, Chloe, and new member Hayley Westenra, and the inspired fiddle playing of Mairead, in a stirring program of traditional Irish songs (Dulaman) works by contemporary artists (Scarborough Fair), and new compositions by musical director David Downes (Mo Ghile Mor).
The CD will be released in a number of formats which will include bonus tracks and a beautiful Claddagh Irish charm. The music was produced, arranged and composed by David Downes.
The DVD A New Journey: Live at Slane Castle, Ireland was recorded this past August at Slane Castle in County Meath, Ireland, the home of Lord Henry Mount Charles- a gorgeous location that has also hosted concerts by U2 and Bruce Springsteen. Also included is a 20-minute "making of" featurette that takes viewers behind the scenes of Celtic Woman's elaborate production.
David Hinckley of the NY Daily News wrote a glowing review of the Slane Castle concert when it aired on PBS earlier this December: "The voices of Celtic Woman blend together so smoothly you might think these women have been harmonizing since they were in their cribs. They sing like angels, almost ethereal on their classical material yet equally adept at creating good fun with folksier numbers." (12/2/06)
