At the Dakota Jazz Club on Thursday night, Christmas stockings were hung over the stage with care … because the Bad Plus fans knew their favorite Yuletide band would soon be there. …The BP, who played their first gigs as a group 17 years ago at the Dakota's old St. Paul location, return each holiday season for multi-night stands at the downtown Minneapolis club. This year's Christmastime performances by the hometown favorites have a somewhat bittersweet quality, since they will be pianist Ethan Iverson's last with the group he co-founded. Iverson, who plans to start another band and continue performing with various "other" musicians, will be succeeded in the piano chair by Orrin Evans.
