The spirit in the sky descended on a multitude at the Broadway Theatre on Saturday, anointing the faithful with soul-stirring songs by The Blind Boys of Alabama. The powerful vocal group formed in 1939 so it's a miracle in itself that it's still a vital touring entity and still releasing albums. The next recording, Almost Home, comes out next month. They're unstoppable. Leader Jimmy Carter made an announcement at the start of their SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival concert: "The Blind Boys of Alabama would like you to know that we love you." The super-excited crowd did its best all night to reciprocate.
