Banda Magda and The Hot Sardines, set for VAF Fringe / ALTDAILY

The first Fringe Festival was "on the fringe" of the famous Edinburgh International Festival in 1947.  The Fringe continues, seventy plus years later, and is the largest in the world.  The VAF scouts around the world bring the quirky, the avant-garde and the creative to the NEON Arts District in Norfolk VA.

The Hot Sardines and Banda Magda will be performing at Commune on Granby Street. The Hot Sardines play Friday, May 18. Their "hot jazz" sound has been featured at the Newport Jazz Festival and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Banda Magda will perform on Saturday, May 19 and this show could not be more international.  The performers are from Greece, Argentina, Japan, Columbia and the USA. Started by singer, composer and accordionist Magda Giannikou, the group "moves from Samba to French Chason, from Greek Folk tunes to Columbian Cumbia and Afro-Peruvian Lando.
