Breckenridge CO National Repertory Orchestra honors America with Mark O'Connor

Bookmark and Share

Three days before the Fourth of July, Breckenridge's National Repertory Orchestra will honor America's natural beauty and proud musical traditions with its Wednesday, July 1, concert, "The Americana Symphony Project." Music by American composer and fiddle virtuoso Mark O'Connor will be set to the nature photography of Summit County's John Fielder. Both O'Connor and Fielder will be in attendance for the event, which will also see O'Connor and his wife, Maggie O'Connor, performing on violins.

Mark O'Connor is living proof that the classical tradition is still alive and growing, and his 2009 "Americana Symphony" proclaims a proud place in this tradition for Colorado's own beautiful landscapes. A world-class fiddler as well as a composer, O'Connor is rooted in both classical music and American forms. He has won two Grammy awards, including the 2001 "Best Classical Crossover Album" for his work in a string trio with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and bassist Edgar Meyer. He is also a seven-time national fiddling champion and a six-time winner of the Country Music Association's "Musician of the Year" award.
