Danny Elfman has been surrounded by music all his life. Growing up he stayed close to the band kids in his school and even started his own band. He later traveled with his brother to France to perform with the Le Grand Magic Circus. Elfman then traveled alone through Africa to learn about music in different coultures. He returned home, after a fight with malaria, to join his brother's band The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.

After composing his first score for the movie Forbidden Zone, the band took on the name Oingo Boingo and toured as a rock group. Ten years later, Tim Burton approched Elfman with an invitation to write the score of his first feature film, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. From then on Burton and Elfman have worked together for most of Burton's film. His latest project with Burton is the up coming film Frankenweenie.
