On Saturday, Dec. 13 and Sunday, Dec. 14, the category-defying violinist/musician Mark O' Connor will join the Mobile Symphony Orchestra for "An Appalachian Christmas at the Mobile Saenger Theatre. During the performance O'Connor will play several of his own compositions including: 'Appalachian Waltz' which was a major part of the soundtrack to the recent PBS Ken Burns series, "The Roosevelts." Cellist Yo-Yo Ma also selected the piece as an encore during his last appearance with the Symphony.

O'Connor' s compositions have been recorded by icons including - James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton, and The Los Angeles Times called O'Connor "one of the most talented and imaginative artists working in music - any music - today." Mobile Symphony music director Scott Speck is delighted that O'Connor is coming to share his celebrated brand of All-American music with Mobile. "He plays the classics, folk, jazz, country and bluegrass. He's a fiddler, a composer and a teacher," Speck said." "I am thrilled," Speck said, "that he is bringing his own symphonic Christmas special to Mobile!"
