Daniil Trifonov set for SSO concerts in Melbourne and Perth / The Daily Telegraph

EACH generation produces an artist who stands head and shoulders above their contemporaries and leaves the critics and fans grasping for superlatives and reaching for history books to find comparisons. Such is the case with 25-year-old Russian pianist Daniil Trifonov, who is making his Australian debut this month performing Sergei Rachmaninoff's first piano concerto with Sydney Symphony Orchestra and at concerts in Melbourne and Perth. You don't have to know anything about music to realise that he has something unique about him in his ability to communicate and touch you with his musicality. Others piano stars may be flashier showmen or more muscular grandstanders, but Trifonov submerges himself and his listener in the music, showing you its structure and poetry from the inside out.
