JD Souther will give master class@University of Central Oklahoma / NewsOK

The Academy of Contemporary Music at the University of Central Oklahoma will host a master class featuring Grammy Award-nominated songwriter JD Souther at 11 a.m. Sept. 11 in the first-floor ACM@UCO Songwriting Room, 25 S Oklahoma Ave. The event is free and open to the public, according to a news release.

Souther has written and co-written songs for artists including Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood and Crosby, Stills and Nash and is perhaps best known for writing and co-writing hits like the Eagles' "Heartache Tonight," "New Kid In Town," "Best Of My Love" and "How Long," Don Henley's "The Heart Of The Matter," and The Dixie Chicks' "I'll Take Care of You."           

In addition to his career as a songwriter, Souther has released eight solo albums, including "Tenderness" in May, and has recorded with jazz musicians Stanley Clarke, Donald Byrd, Chuck Domanico, Johnny Guerin, Chris Walters, Jeff Coffin and Lizz Wright.
