The Center for Cultural Preservation is starting the year with a bang as it presents lauded Grammy Award-winning musician Dom Flemons in concert on Jan. 25. "An Evening with Dom Flemons" is part of the nonprofit's "Keeping the Fires Burning" series. The show will take place at the Thomas Auditorium on the campus of Blue Ridge Community College. Flemons, who's dedicated his career to innovating on traditional American musical styles, was co-founder in 2005 of acclaimed breakout band Carolina Chocolate Drops. In 2011, the Chocolate Drops earned its first Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album. "As I am continually seeking to explore the roots of traditional Southern music and mountain music, I connected with Dom and his work with both the Carolina Chocolate Drops and his solo music," said David Weintraub, executive director of the Center for Cultural Preservation.
