Sharon Isbin blends but does not alter Indian tradition on 'Strings For Peace' / O's Place Jazz Magazine

O's Notes: Indian sarod master Amjad Ali Khan has sought to expand his art form and culture by collaborating with Western musicians. In this case he joins guitarist Sharon Isbin to form Strings For Peace. The songs were designed for the guitar (Isbin), tabla (Amit Kavthekar) and sarod (Khan and his sons, Amman Ali Bangash, Ayaan Ali Bangash). They play four lengthy selections that are rich with Indian tradition. Isbin blends but does not alter the tradition introducing it to a new audience.
