Bela Fleck on his banjo concerto / Oregon Live interview

Bookmark and Share

Bela Fleck has made a career out of exploring new directions for the banjo. Informed by the three-finger bluegrass tradition of Earl Scruggs and others, he has experimented with jazz, classical and world music alongside greats such as Chick Corea, Edgar Meyer, and of course his own group, the Flecktones.

Fleck's interest in classical and symphonic music is well known. After releasing his first album in the Classical style - Perpetual Motion, he has been showcasing his banjo concerto The Imposter, which he recorded on Deutche Grammophon. He'll perform the work at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday, Sept. 13, with the Oregon Symphony.
