Simone Dinnerstein describes A Strange Beauty

Bach: A Strange Beauty is a compelling album by Simone Dinnerstein that highlights the consistently changing nature of Bach's keyboard music.  She captures our attention by not staying on one tempo, bringing attitude, expression, soul and expansive sounds.  While creating the album, she did not want to have the strict, unemotional approach to Bach's masterpieces, but she saw it as 'very much a dialogue between the keyboard and the orchestra.'  Although her respect for all music is prominent, she was not very conscerned with what Bach might have thought about her interpretations. 'I'm living in a completely different time than Bach,'she says. 'I'm not playing the music because I wanted to faithfully re-create what Bach thought. I'm playing the music because elements of that music speak to me now in the present day.'
