Simone Dinnerstein performs a wordless Cohen

Bookmark and Share

Simone Dinnerstein dropped by the NPR music studios to play her variations on "Leonard Cohen's 'Suzanne.'  These variations were written for her by New York composer Daniel Felsenfeld, soley for the piano.  This leaves out the provocative lyrics, which was seen as an indespensible element of the piece.   Dinnerstein describes herself as 'not very word-oriented' but with Felsendeld, they were able to find the subtext of a song, which provides a subtle but deep emotional stirring.
