JD Souther's mellow falsetto was made for crooning. His voice is like a warm fire on a cold day. This 2013 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee has been writing beautiful lyrics and music for over 40 years and is still going strong. He's not only done masterful solo work, but also written with the Eagles, Linda Rondstadt, and a host of others. It's great to see this legend back with some fresh music.

His latest release, Tenderness, has ten vocally rich and lyrically profound songs that are individually unique and collectively sophisticated and noirish. "Something in the Dark" has a nice throwback feel, with ELO-like strings and a 70s groove and "Let's Take a Walk" has a crisp, upbeat feel, reminiscent of the Young Rascals "Groovin'." "Dance Real Slow" is a summertime-vibes ballad with a big band era feel. JD's work is often resplendent in simplicity on the surface and wise and weighty underneath.
