'Babylon Berlin' secret star, Max Raabe says: "I cant do anything in front of the camera" / CALIFORNIA18

There’s nothing to be gained from me in front of the camera

CALIFORNIA18 writes…There are things he’s not good at. And there are things he doesn’t like to talk about. But he does both so charmingly and sympathetically that you somehow have to like him.

Singer Max Raabe (59) is the secret star of the long-awaited fourth season of the ARD series “Babylon Berlin” (currently on Sky & Wow). He not only contributed the song “Ein Tag wie Gold” with his Palast Orchester – composed with music icon Annette Humpe (71, Ich + Ich) – but also played in the series.

acting talent? Raabe says to BILD am Sonntag: “I don’t have it! I wouldn’t do anything in front of the camera.” Which, by the way, also explains his famous appearances that are rather sparse in terms of movement.

For his new album “Who’s in a bad mood here” (from October 14), Raabe had his picture taken with a zebra

Raabe: “When we started with the orchestra, I always just went to the microphone, sang and then left again. That was without a concept. People loved that I was just standing there with my arms hanging down and nothing else. Many like to move rhythmically and make gestures to the music. I never wanted that. Also because it is not in my nature.”

The hair has turned grayer over the years, but the voice is still unmistakably clear as a bell.

He doesn’t like hearing that he’ll be 60 in December. When asked by the BILD-am-Sonntag reporter about the milestone birthday, he answered jokingly, “Unfortunately, we have to stop now.” Simply because he doesn’t feel that way.

Raabe: “I don’t have the feeling that the number 60 suits me. I don’t feel any different than when I was in my mid-30s, mid-40s or mid-50s. Oddly enough, I haven’t noticed any difference yet. Except in the morning…”

So what? “When I shave and look in the mirror, I see the difference. But the trick is simply to take off all the mirrors – and you’re fine.” Besides, everything in life is relative. Raabe: “We buried our drummer in his late 50s (Vincent Riewe died in 2017, editor’s note). We miss that. Then I’d rather take the stupid number than an early end.”
