Branford Marsalis headlines 'Clifford Brown Jazz Festival' / delaware online

The Clifford Brown Jazz Festival will fill Wilmington's Rodney Square with live music for its 31st year starting Wednesday June 19. Grammy Award-winner and former "Tonight Show" bandleader Branford Marsalis will headline this weekend on June 22,  The city's annual Festival brings thousands of people downtown to listen to free music. Although trumpeter Clifford Brown died at 25 in a car accident, he left behind a vibrant legacy through his influence on future jazzmen and as one of the artists responsible for the hard-bop sound. 

From his initial recognition as a young jazz lion, Branford Marsalis has expanded his vision as an instrumentalist, composer, bandleader and educator, crossing stylistic boundaries while maintaining an unwavering creative integrity. In the process, he has become an avatar of contemporary artistic excellence.
