Placido Domingo will perform in this week's 70th anniversary benefit concert for the New York City Opera

It was an absolute heartbreak when the New York City Opera closed its doors to the public after 70 years of service. There was no rich benefactor to save it, so in light of this unfortunate reality, Plácido Domingo, who made his New York debut with NYCO--has agreed to sing at the 70th anniversary benefit concert to honor the company's founding. Mr. Domingo joins other veterans of the troupe, its orchestra and its chorus at a concert called "70 Years of the People's Opera," which premieres this Frifay February 21 at City Center.
