Bela Fleck will perform his Concerto / TONIGHT!! w/North Carolina Symphony

Banjo master Béla Fleck will perform his Concerto for Banjo and Symphony Orchestra with the North Carolina Symphony, led by Music Director Grant Llewellyn, in a special concert TONIGHT!! Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh. The concert coincides with the International Bluegrass Music Association conference in Raleigh, which takes place Sept. 24-28. North Carolina is famous around the world for its traditional music, and from time to time, different members of the Symphony and staff members come together to play as the North Carolina Symphony Bluegrass Band. As part of the Béla Fleck concert on September 24, the North Carolina Symphony Bluegrass Band will feature Principal 2nd Violin Jacqueline Saed Wolborsky, Assistant Principal 2nd Violin David Kilbride, Associate Principal Bass Robert K. Anderson, Director of Operations Allyn Love on guitar, Director of Communications Joe Newberry on guitar and banjo, with special guest Chris Brashear on mandolin. Also as part of the evening's program, popular North Carolina songwriter and vocalist Laurelyn Dossett will perform with the Symphony, accompanied by Joe Newberry and Chris Brashear, to present music new and traditional.

Winner of 15 Grammy Awards and nominated in more categories than any other artist in Grammy history – Fleck's latest CD The Impostor, was released August 13. The album showcases Fleck's title Concerto for Banjo and Symphony Orchestra, as well as "Night Flight Over Water," for banjo and string quartet.
