Snarky Puppy wins GRAMMY, releases new album, set to play Lone Star state

Snarky Puppy & Metropole Orkest won the award for best contemporary instrumental album for "Sylva" at the 58th annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center last Monday Feb. 15, 2016, in Los Angeles. Considered from an outside perspective, the Denton-formed and Michael League-led collective Snarky Puppy often seems like a never-ending party, a freewheeling artistic bacchanal forever in search of its next spark. The band, currently preparing to tour Central America and the States, will perform May 19 at Dallas' Granada Theater.

The GRAMMY timing was fortuituous, with the prize arriving just days after Snarky Puppy released its latest studio effort, Family Dinner Volume Two (following 2013's inaugural installment). None of the first volume's Dinner guests return for these 13 tracks, as League and his collaborators invite a new roster of pals to participate: Laura Mvula, Jeff Coffin and fervent Snarky Puppy fan David Crosby stop by to share in the fun. It's an eclectic, vivid document of a band unlike any other in modern music.
