Today's Extra section features a story about a new band, Bokante, that plays Jefferson Center on Wednesday. Snarky Puppy's Michael League formed the band with Malika Tirolien who said that League showed expert abilities at putting together the band. I asked League about the music and how those connections formed. His response: "I had been amassing a significant number of song ideas that had a common sound - and one outside of the Snarky Puppy musical umbrella. So, I decided to start a new group to play them. The idea expanded from there. Not everyone knew each other before the recording, but I was close with everyone on an individual basis. Malika and André [Ferrari] were guests on Family Dinner albums, Keita [Ogawa], Bob [Lanzetti], and [Chris] McQueen are part of Snarky Puppy, Jamey [Haddad] is an old friend and collaborator, and Roosevelt [Collier] is a regular on the festival circuit with us. The fact that the players are from so many different places, backgrounds, and cultures has fed into the music in a big way. There's a lot of harmony in diversity happening here. It's becoming a much more significant thing than I originally imagined."
