Swan Song for Cypress String Quartet - WGTE Radio

Interview with WGTE's Brad Cresswell

After two decades of spectacular music-making, the San Francisco-based Cypress String Quartet Cecily Ward, violin; Tom Stone, violin; Ethan Filner, viola; and Jennifer Kloetzel, cello) has decided to disband. During those 20 years the group has immersed itself in performing Beethoven on tours throughout the United States and Europe as well as recording all 16 works plus the "Grande Fugue" (Große Fuge). The completion of the Beethoven cycle recording is a fitting celebration of the Bay Area-based ensemble's 20th anniversary as well as the group's valedictory season. They leave behind a rich discography, including their latest recording - the last in their series of Beethoven String Quartets. Violinist Tom Stone and cellist Jennifer Kloetzel join us to talk about the reasons behind their decision, and to preview their new Beethoven recording, which is now available from Avie Records.

WGTE: Toledo OH's Brad Cresswell spoke with the group about their 20 year run and final recording together. Listen to the interview.
