Vienna Philharmonic - New Years Concert 2022 w/Daniel Barenboim' makes it into the 'GRAMOPHONE Listening Room'

Among today's Listening Room highlights are Daniel Barenboim as conductor (New Year's Day Concert) and pianist (Debussy from his forthcoming album of encores), Lise Davidsen and Leif Ove Andsnes performing Grieg songs – Gramophone's January Recording of the Month – and Mendelssohn from Peter Donohoe. HK Gruber conducts Hanns Eisler and Edward Gardner conducts Marius Neset while we've a piano sonata by Dai Fujikura. Sandrine Piau sings Handel and Fenella Humphreys and Joseph Tong give us Sibelius violin and piano music.

The Vienna Philharmonic - New Years Concert 2022  conducted by Daniel Barenboim' on January 1st 2022, in the Golden Hall of the Musikverein in Vienna was broadcast to over 90 countries all over the world and watched by more than 50 million viewers on TV. The TV broadcast gained a market share of 60% in its home country Austria – the highest share since 2014 - with 1,16 million viewers. The program included works by members of the Strauß dynasty (Johann Strauß I and II as well as Josef Strauß) including 6 premieres of works not previously heard at a New Year’s Concert. It has been announced that the New Year’s Concert 2023 will be conducted by Franz Welser-Möst.
