Maxim Vengerov plays Bridgewater Hall / Manchester Evening News review

Maxim Vengerov's agents may have to add to his label of ‘world's greatest violinist' the subtitle ‘and one of its best conductors', if Thursday's showing at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall is anything to go by. He's not been doing the stick-waving thing for very long (compared with violin playing, which he started at about two-and-a-half), but he's definitely got the knack. He says he's learned a lot from working with Barenboim, and, as we all know, Barenboim learned an awful lot from working with Barbirolli.
