Laila Biali primed to make festive music with the central band of the canadian armed forces / Ottawa Citizen Q&A

Toronto pianist-singer-songwriter Laila Biali frequently visits Ottawa, usually with her trio to perform her music that effervescently blends jazz and pop. But next week, Biali, whose eponymous album won this year's Juno Award for best vocal jazz album, will be heard in Ottawa in a different light.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, she will be the featured guest when the Ottawa-based Central Band of the Canadian Armed Forces plays two holiday-themed concerts at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe. Below, Biali, a 39-year-old who has toured with Sting, Suzanne Vega and Chris Botti, discusses the thrill of working with her new military collaborators, what has kept her busy in 2019 and what 2020 holds for her.
