Ola Gjeilo and Winter Songs on 88.9:community idea station WCVE

Interview with WCVE's Mike Goldberg

Norwegian Composer Ola Gjeilo was born in Norway in 1978 and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin composition studies at the Juilliard School. He's a talented composer and pianist, who is now the composer-in-residence with the British vocal ensemble Voces8. Ola is very interested in film, and his music often draws inspiration from movies.

"Winter Songs" is a new album of his compositions and arrangements for choir and strings. It features new arrangements of familiar Christmas carols and new, "wintry" compositions inspired by the season. Gjeilo performs on the piano, with the string group 12 Ensemble and the Choir of Royal Holloway, all led by conductor Rupert Gough.

Breakfast Classics Classical Music Host, 88.9 WCVE, Mike Goldberg recently sat down with Ola to discuss his compositional style and this new album. LISTEN TO THE SEGMENT
