Itzhak Perlman Q&A with Worcester Telegram

If the violin is a replica of the soul, as Itzhak Perlman remarks at one point in the documentary "Itzhak," then there's a ready explanation for the beautiful music the violinist has performed over the years. As director Alison Chernick discovered during the course of filming Perlman at his home and while he was performing, conducting and teaching around the world, "he has tons of humanity, tons of warmth in his heart and that's how this makes wonderful music." But as Perlman also observes, "It's nice that there are certain things you can't explain."

"Itzhak," which premiered at the Hamptons International Film Festival Oct. 5 in East Hampton, New York, with both Perlman and Chernick in attendance, will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in The Willows at Worcester as the concluding film of the 2018 Central Mass. International Jewish Film Festival.
