Yo-Yo Ma brings along a few friends from around the globe for Florida State's 'Opening Nights' / Tallahassee Democrat
The last time world-famous cellist Yo-Yo Ma, center, was at Opening Nights for a solo show, he played the Bach Cello Suites so beautifully they sounded the way Bach probably heard them in his head when they were written. This time around, when he returns to Opening Nights on Tuesday night at Florida State University's Ruby Diamond Concert Hall, Ma is bringing along a few friends from around the globe (Spain, Iran, China, etc.) for a truly international jam session with The Silk Road Ensemble. The concert is sold out but if you would like to get a taste of what sort exotic treats are in store, rent the excellent documentary "The Music of Strangers," which tells the story of how the group was formed.
