Pablo Aslan creates rich atmospheres on Contrabajo / Jazz Weekly

Bassist Pablo Aslan creates some rich atmospheres and moods as he teams with the Cuarteto Petrus (Pablo saravi/vi, Harnan Briatico/vi, Adrain Feizia/va, Gloria Pankaeva/vc on a collection of themes dominated by composer Gabriel Senanes and Alexis Cuadrado. The strings vary between gentle pulses as on "Preludio #1" having Aslan finger the theme, while the roles get reversed as the Cuarteto gives some pizzicato'd background for Aslan's rich bow on "Confluencias." The team does a gorgeous and elegiac take of Duke Ellington's "Come Sunday" that has the long tones yearn whereas the strings give Hitchcockian slashes on the dramatic "Riendo Suelto." Paquito D'Rivera brings his warm clarinet for a festive dance of Alans  "Tanguajira." The bows give a percussive current to a moody "Reflejos" and with guest Raul Jaurena on bandoneon a festive "La Cumparsita" closes things out. Rich hues and textures.
