Lara Downes set for 'Total Bernstein Embrace' at Trinity Church - Jewish Week

Bookmark and Share

Trinity celebrates the centennial of Leonard Bernstein's birth with a wide-ranging selection of the iconic composer-conductor's music, as well as works by other notable New York City composer-conductors including Bernstein's lifelong friend Lukas Foss, as well as Gustav Mahler, Pierre Boulez, Aaron Copland, and Julian Wachner. With a special emphasis on lesser-known and vocal compositions, the concerts will feature resident contemporary music orchestra NOVUS NY and a roster of North America's leading instrumental and vocal soloists.

The 100th birthday is Aug. 25, so the bulk of the musical festivities will take place in the fall. However, an event to get you in a centennial mood will come from Lara Downes. The Davis CA pianist will perform the complete cycle of "LB Anniversaries" - works she has commissioned from living composers in tribute to Bernstein at Trinity Church: St. Paul's Chapel on June 1 2018.
