Tavis Smiley is joined by prolific singer-songwriter and actor JD Souther. The recent inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame has penned numerous hits for some of music's most celebrated acts, including The Eagles, The Dixie Chicks, and his dear friend Linda Ronstadt. A talented recording artist in his own right, he's out now with his eighth solo album, entitled Tenderness via Sony Music Masterworks. Produced by Larry Klein (Joni Mitchell, Madeleine Peyroux, Melody Gardot, Herbie Hancock), the album continues the new path in sound and style that Souther has forged since his return to recording in 2008; but at the same time, is unlike anything he has previously recorded. Joining Souther on guitar and vocals are longtime collaborators pianist Chris Walters and saxophonist Jeff Coffin; as well as new friends, vocalist Lizz Wright and trumpet master Till Brönner. Jazz piano legend and recent Grammy Award winner Billy Childs is on board as well; he also has arranged the elegant and searing strings on half the album's tracks.

Watch the attached video clip Souther shares the hilarious story of how he first met Ronstadt, the woman he calls "one of the most important people" in his life.
