More than four million Latino Americans call the New York and New Jersey region home. On the landmark PBS series "Latino Americans" premiering September 17, 2013, Cuban percussionist and band leader Pedrito Martinez talks about his main instrument, the Bata drum, which is used in religious ceremonies in Cuba. The religion is called "Yoruba" in Africa and "Santería" in Cuba. Now living in New York City, Martinez sees many people who aren't from Cuba practicing the same ceremonies and using the same drum.

The lives, achievements, culture and rich diversity of local Latino communities in New York and New Jersey will be highlighted on this 30-minute program to air on WNET stations Thirteen, WLIW21, and NJTV between September 17 and October 11, 2013.
