Richard Reed Parry stops by WNYC: Soundcheck

Richard Reed Parry recently appeared on New York's WNYC: Soundcheck to discuss, among other things, the origins of his DG release – Music for Heart and Breath. Parry's goal on the album was to represent "extreme human-ness" by directing performers to wear stethoscopes and sync their playing to the natural rhythms of their bodies. Musicians perform the same melody simultaneously, but their pulse and respiration determine when they begin the melody and how quickly they play it. In some cases, they are prompted to sync their playing to another player's breathing, which requires intense listening and rhythmic flexibility.
