Xuefei Yang' 'Butterfly Lover's Concerto' on Valentine's Day edition of Fretworks - Classical 101 - Columbus

For Valentine's Day, we'll hear music from the Butterfly Lover's Violin Concerto arranged for solo guitar and performed by Chinese guitarist Xuefei Yang.  The concerto from 1959 is one of the most famous works of Chinese music, with a story line about two young people who fall in love and are kept apart by circumstances, a little like Romeo and Juliet.  In this version though, their spirits are reunited at the end in the form of two butterflies rising up from the tomb and flying away together, never to be separated.

Join me for Fretworks on WOSU - Classical 101: Columbus OH this Saturday February 14 at 7 pm and the following Wednesday evening at 7 for Xuefei Yang.
