Albuquerque's Outpost welcomes The Bad Plus for their first New Mexico performance. For twelve years, The Bad Plus- featuring bassist, Reid Anderson; pianist Ethan Iverson; and drummer David King- have broken down the walls of jazz convention and created a unique and uncompromising body of work. The bulk of their output has been original music, but they are also widely recognized for their deconstruction of songs from the pop, rock, country, and classical music idioms as well. Their 2012 release, Made Possible, proves that the rules of musical convention are made to be broken, and with their latest release (March 2014), they take on Igor Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. Rolling Stone wrote, "By any standard, jazz or otherwise, it is moving, mighty music...bad to the bone, hot players with hard-rock hearts." The New Yorker wrote, "The Bad Plus are the Coen brothers of jazz: Midwesterners, both ironic and dead earnest, technically brilliant, beyond versatile, a little chilly sometimes, but funny, surprising, and pretty hard to pin down."
