Evansville Philharmonic opens 2015-16 season with Joshua Bell / Evansville Courier & Press

During his first season with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra, Alfred Savia noticed a soloist he'd never heard of slated to take on the Mendelssohn Concerto. That was Joshua Bell - who had, at that point, been playing with orchestras around the country at the start of his monumental orchestral career. "At such a young age, he took rigorous tradition and technique and created such lyrical and sweet sounding music when he played," Savia said. "It was magical."

Bell - now a renowned violinist who has played around the world - will return to Evansville to open the Philharmonic's 2015-2016 season at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Victory. The concert, which will feature Bell performing the Bruch violin Concerto No. 1, is also in celebration of the University of Southern Indiana's 50th anniversary.  READ THE FULL Evansville Courier & Press ARTICLE
