Jan Lisiecki set for 'Bella Concert Hall' / Calgary Herald | Vancouver Sun

"I'm quite set in my ways. And stubborn," not a stretch coming from Jan Lisiecki. The pianist is on the line from his Calgary home talking about the artistic direction he has taken under Deutsche Grammophon, the venerable, 120-year-old classical music label that has released three of his albums and has one on deck for March. Chopin: Works for Piano & Orchestra, was recorded with the North German Radio Symphony Orchestra and fits nicely into Lisiecki's body of work. The composer's work has long been a calling card for the pianist. But while the top brass at Deutsche Grammophon no doubt wield plenty of influence, they have given their young star plenty of room to develop on his own terms. After all, while only 21, Lisiecki is a veteran who has been touring the world for nearly a decade.    Lisiecki performs at Mount Royal University's Bella Concert Hall on Friday, Jan. 20.
