Sol Gabetta nominated for 2017 Gramophone - Artist of the Year

Once again, Gramophone is inviting its readers and visitors to vote for its new Artist of the Year. From a shortlist of 10, drawn up by the magazine's editors, readers are invited to vote. While Gramophone's panel of critics votes for the 12 record categories and Recording of the Year, since 2003 the Artist of the Year has been in the gift of our readers. Voting runs from June 16 to July 31 and the winner will be revealed at the Gramophone Classical Music Awards (presented in association with the Pan-Armenian Symphony Orchestra and the BPI) on September 13, 2017.

This year's Artist of the Year nominees includes cellist Sol Gabetta. Sol Gabetta, a former Gramophone Young Artist, has already given us a superb recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto, but this year she returned to it in the company of the Berlin Philharmonic and Sir Simon Rattle and, if anything, has bettered that earlier fine achievement. Coupled with Martinů's concerto (on the CD) and orchestral works on the DVD, this is a treasurable memento of a highly gifted player.
