O'Connor Band set for Green Music Center's - Bluegrass Festival / Santa Rosa Press Democrat

Not many musicians can claim collaborations with a roster as diverse as singer-songwriter James Taylor, classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma, jazz bandleader Wynton Marsalis and banjo master Bela Fleck, but for violinist Mark O'Connor, that's just an excerpt from the top of his list. O'Connor has excelled in classical, country and jazz music for decades, but when he and his O'Connor Band appear Sunday June 9 at Rohnert Park's Green Music Center, the spotlight will be on bluegrass, with David Grisman and Del McCoury topping the festival bill.

Founded a year and a half ago as the O'Connor Family Band - featuring O'Connor's wife, son and daughter-in-law - the versatile fiddler's ensemble has since expanded its lineup and shortened its name. "Right now, the O'Connor Band is going full-tilt," he said by phone recently while touring in Colorado. "We're unusual in that we have three fiddlers. Within this group, we get to do a nice variety of arrangements. I like anything I can sink my teeth into."
