To put it simply, Yo-Yo Ma is a national treasure. Arguably the world's greatest cellist, he's also a humanitarian and one of America's best ambassadors for classical music. So it was no surprise that Ma's special concert with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra on Friday night sold out months ago. The cellist took the Taft Theatre's stage to deafening applause, holding up his cello and beaming a big smile. His first notes in the Dvorak Cello Concerto were impassioned, driven. And from there, the piece – one of the chestnuts of the cello repertoire – unfolded like something we've never heard before. He took it to another level.
