Quartetto di Cremona play first concert with newly loaned - four instruments by Stradivari

Bookmark and Share

On September 27th, the Quartetto di Cremona took on the loan of the "Paganini Quartet", four instruments by Stradivari. They are succeeding the Hagen and Tokyo Quartets who played the instruments, known to be treasured by Paganini, in recent years, and the Paganini and Cleveland Quartets. Since 1994, the complete set of instruments is in possession of the Nippon Music Foundation which loans them to select ensembles.

After the completion of their outstanding Beethoven Edition which raised international attention and received several awards, including an ECHO Klassik 2017, this is another important milestone in the success story of the Quartetto di Cremona, documenting their international standing

The first CONCERT on the Stradivari instruments will take place TODAY in Hamburg's Laeiszhalle at 20:00 PM. The program "Italian journey" presents works by Mozart, Respighi, Wolf and Verdi.

To conclude their great Beethoven cycle with Vol. VIII, the Quartetto di Cremona have chosen two masterworks from the composer's early and middle periods: the Quartet in D major, Op. 18 No. 3, with its tempestuous final tarantella, and the "Harp" Quartet, Op. 74, which does not feature a harp but instead presents Beethoven on his way to modernism.
