Cliff Eidelman & Michael McHale visit with Jim Svejda at KUSC

Interview with KUSC's Jim Svedja

Cliff Eidelman's recent release; Symphony for Orchestra and Two Pianos and Night in the Gallery was recorded at Abbey Road Studios. The album features the London Symphony Orchestra and soloists Michael McHale and Tom Poster under the direction of the composer. Eidelman began composing his new Symphony for Orchestra and Two Pianos years ago prompted by an inner creative resolve.

As a composer of music for film including Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country and Christopher Columbus. Eidelman had no hesitation in selecting the London Symphony Orchestra for its virtuosity and the openness of its music making from recording Mahler Symphony cycles to working on major films from Harry Potter to Star Wars. Inasmuch, the LSO provided the ideal balance for experience and enthusiasm.  When researching interpreters for the difficult piano parts of this new work, Eidelman encountered the artistry of young pianist Michael McHale and was entranced.  Soon pianist Tom Poster and engineer Jonathan Allen were on board as well and the recording project was off and running.

Tune into the Evening Program with Jim Svejda this Tuesday at 10pm for a visit from Cliff Eidelman. He'll discuss the two works for the concert hall, and he's joined by the brilliant Irish pianist Michael McHale, Photo by Bjoern Kommerell
