A recent addition to the Blue Note Entertainment Group's stable of clubs has paid off with a wealth of Latin listening opportunities this year at the Blue Note Jazz Festival. Subrosa, which is "under the rose" in - cheekily - Latin, opened last fall in the now-trendy Meatpacking District with a focus on all types of Latin music. Just by doing its thing, Subrosa makes 17 appearances on the fifth annual festival's schedule. "We opened Subrosa to provide a new creative hub for eclectic music, with an emphasis on Latin music," says Steven Bensusan, president of Blue Note Entertainment Group. "The space is quickly becoming a destination for listeners to discover new globally-influenced music in an accessible setting."

The Pedrito Martinez Group has been in residency at Subrosa since November as its anchor artist after a decade at Guantanamera in Midtown. Martinez, a stalwart percussionist on the city's Afro-Cuban scene who scored a Best Latin Jazz Album Grammy nomination this year says - "You walk in and feel like you are in Havana,The room is unique with a great vibe and a very good sound, which has been inspiring for us. Performing there as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival is especially exciting."
