WHO? WHAT? WOW! The week in weird. JAZZ CAN SOOTHE THE SAVAGE-TOOTHED BEAST

If you're a shark, chances are Diana Krall and John Coltrane are among your favourite jams. According to a study conducted by Australia's Macquarie University Fish Lab, sharks are seemingly drawn to jazz music. As part of the study, university scientists trained Port Jackson sharks to swim from one end of a holding tank to another for a treat whenever soothing jazz sounds blared from underwater speakers. Five of the underwater creatures learned to associate the music with food.

When the same test was conducted with classical music, however, the sharks didn't take the bait. For the scientists, the study was one step closer to understanding a shark's cognitive abilities and personality traits.  photo: (Getty Images)
